Korean Taehoon Ok sensationally eagled the two par fives on the front nine of the Serapong Course at Sentosa Golf Club today to help take the clubhouse lead after the first session on the opening day of the SMBC Singapore Open.
Ok fired a five-under-par 66 in the final event of the year on the Asian Tour to lead from compatriot Sihwan Kim, Thailand’s Sadom Kaewkanjana, and Justin De Los Santos from the Philippines who returned 67s.
Korean Joohyung Kim, the current leader of the Asian Tour Order of Merit and winner of last week’s The Singapore International, came in with a 68, in a group of players that included Singapore’s Jesse Yap.
Half the field are still on the course with Thailand’s 14-year-old wonderkid Ratchanon Chantananuwat making a move at four under after eight.
Taehoon Ok, a professional for five years, made three birdies and two bogies to lead the US$1.25 million event.
The little-known Korean first rose to prominence in the Blue Canyon Phuket Championship at the end of last year when he was in contention before tying for 10th.
Back in 2020 he made three birdies in his last five holes to secure the last card at the Qualifying School.
