The sparkling eight-under-par 63 by Song Younghan in the second round of the SMBC Singapore Open matched the best ever score shot in the tournament over the par-71 Serapong Course at Sentosa Golf Club.
The iconic Singapore Open was staged at Sentosa Golf Club from 2005 to 2012 and in that time only Angel Cabrera of Argentina, the 2007 champion, and South Africa’s George Coetzee carded 63s.
With preferred lies being in operation during all those rounds, the score does not count as an official course record.

Cabrera’s round in 2007 was similarly impressive, the big-hitting Argentine reeling in nine birdies against a lone bogey in soft conditions for a two-day total of eight-under 134.
The brilliant round made Cabrera hard to catch and rounds of 70 and 72 over the weekend were good enough for a one-shot victory over the hard-charging Vijay Singh, who carded a final-round 67.
In 2012, Coetzee fired eight birdies in his error-free 63 during the second round.
His seven-under total of 135 left him two shots adrift of halfway leader Thomas Bjorn of Denmark but Coetzee faltered over the final two rounds, shooting 74-70 to finish eight shots behind winner Matteo Manassero of Italy.
The SMBC Singapore Open is back at Sentosa Golf Club this week for its 50th staging and the famed Serapong Course is living up to its reputation with Song the only player to go low.
