Nearly 40 juniors took part in a golf clinic at the weekend which was the second of its kind organised by the Singapore Golf Association Golf (SGA) in partnership with the SMBC Singapore Open.
It took place at Sentosa Golf Club and saw Singapore professionals Choo Tze Huang and Jerome Ng conduct proceedings along with Gregory Foo, Joshua Ho and Abdul Hadi, all members of the national amateur team.
The juniors were coached on all area of the game from driving through to short game and putting.
The experience was made even more special by the fact that Foo, Ho and Hadi had just returned from playing in the Nomura Cup in Abu Dhabi where they finished fourth. It was Singapore’s best finish in what is one of the region’s most prestigious amateur team championships.
Foo and Ho have also qualified for the SMBC Singapore Open, having won the Singapore Open and Closed Amateur Championships respectively.
The participants in the golf clinic were recruited by the SGA via the Ministry of Education with the first clinic having taken place on October 18.
A third is planned for the most promising children nearer to the SMBC Singapore Open, which takes place on the Serapong Course at Sentosa Golf Club from January 28 to 31.
American Jordan Spieth was recently secured as the event’s star player.
The aim of these clinics is to give young aspiring golfers access to professional tuition.
It is hoped to expand these junior golf clinics next year into a more regular development programme.
The golf clinics were organised by the SGA and Lagardère Sports, the promoter of the SMBC Singapore Open, and graciously hosted by Sentosa Golf Club.
